SOME
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Mountain
High Hikers is a vibrant club with now over 180 members. We have instituted new
programs over the past year and worked hard on updating others. Trail
maintenance is at an all time high, not only in attendance, but also in
productive hours worked. Did you know that MHH now has over 1400 hours this
year? The club also has achieved recognition for its trail maintenance
efforts. We have had two out of town trips, one to Virginia, the other upcoming
next week (Oct. 14th) to the Mt. Mitchell area. Others have organized special
hikes for our members. We have had hikes each Tuesday throughout the entire
year.
We all
like to hear of our accomplishments, but these would not have happened but for a
few hard workers. Many of you are aware that some of our board and committee
members have been on the board for several years. None of the committees have
backup. We have stressed that MHH needs to get our committees deeper than one
person in order to transition easily from year to year.
WHAT DOES
THIS MEAN?
Well, in
fact, it means that we have a huge hole to fill for next year. Rather than
holding a special Board meeting to select a committee chairperson for the
nomination committee, the Board has decided to function as a nominating
committee and is requested to assist in filling their respective positions.
The elected positions available for next year (2009) are:
Vice President
Secretary/Historian
Treasurer
Individuals for these positions must be found before our
November 10th Board Meeting.
Committee positions also needing filled are:
Membership
Hike Planning
Website
Hospitality
Conservation
As you
will note, this is a VERY LARGE and significant number of spots to be filled.
All officers and committee members have done a tremendous job. I, as one
person, cannot begin to fill all these vacancies. Three members of the Board
(President, Trail Maintainer, and Publicity chair persons) have agreed to
consider staying on provided the above positions are filled.
WHAT DOES
THIS MEAN TO YOU?
I
sincerely hope that each of you will review the needed positions and respond
with a YES I WILL SERVE attitude. We do not want anyone to have to work too
hard, helpers are needed in all areas. The Board only meets 4 times a year,
usually at Young Harris Library. Membership meetings are only held 4 times a
year.
WHAT WOULD
YOUR SERVING MEAN TO OUR CLUB?
Your
serving would help keep our club and activities going in the style to which we
are accustomed. We have a great Club and it has meant a great deal to each of
us. Let’s pull together to help continue our fine reputation and standing in
the North Carolina andnNorth Georgia mountain areas. This can be accomplished
ONLY WITH YOUR HELP!
If, after
reviewing the above, you would like to discuss where you might serve, please
contact me either by phone (828) 389-8240 or by email at MHHPRESIDENT@AOL.COM.
Sincerely,
Bob
