Joyce Kilmer Dayhike trip:
A walk through Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest is a journey back
in time through a magnificent forest with towering trees as old as 400
years. Some enormous yellow-poplars are over 20 feet in circumference and
stand 100 feet tall. The floor is carpeted with a garden of wildflowers,
ferns, and moss-covered logs from fallen giants.The only way to see the
impressive memorial forest is on foot. The figure-eight
Joyce Kilmer National Recreation Trail
covers 2 miles and has two loops: the 1�-mile lower loop passes the Joyce
Kilmer Memorial plaque, and the upper �-mile loop swings through Poplar
Cove, a grove of the largest trees. The trailhead parking area has a flush
toilet and picnic tables.
We will also take a 5 to 6 mile optional hike
on one of the many trails that are available close to the Forest.
Following our excursion we will drive back to Andrews and anyone who would
like to join the group for dinner, we will eat at Chestnuts in Andrews.

Appletree Car Camp and London Bald Trails: During
the wildflower peak, join us for a weekend of tent, camper or car camping
with hot showers, picnic pavilions and flush toilets at the USFS
Appletree Group Camp near Andrews, NC. Each day will offer day hikes
with easy to strenuous options on the various Appletree
complex and Bartram trails. This will be a joint activity with GATC.
MUST REGISTER!! Limit 50 people

Highlands, NC:
Come join the Mountain High Hikers on October 24 and 25th at the
Mountain Center in Highlands North Carolina. We have reserved the lodge and
if we need to we can get some cabins at this wonderful facility on top of
the mountain. There are hiking trails on site and many more a short car ride
away. The rooms all have private bathrooms and two single beds. There is a
large dining hall and three meals a day are included in the $95 a day fee
per person, per night all taxes included.
